CHITUNGWIZA Municipality FC has this year set a target to get promotion into Division 1, with the long-term goal being to emulate other cities that have teams playing in the top flight Premier Soccer League.

They include recently promoted Mutare City and Bulawayo, while many other cities have clubs that are not necessarily run by local authorities but bring weekend entertainment to their local residents every time they play at home.

These are the likes of FC Platinum (Zvishavane), ZPC Kariba and Tsholotsho FC, Chapungu (Gweru), Hwange and Beitbridge based Border Strikers FC which uses Dulibadzimu as their home ground.

Chitungwiza Municipality FC chairman, Ranganai Gona, said as they prepare for the new league which begins on April 16, they are in the process of finalising registration of players.

“This year we aim to end at the top so that we are promoted into Div 1. Thereafter, we aspire to bring the premiership to the thousands of soccer lovers who have to go to Harare every weekend in search of soccer entertainment.”

The club was last season perched on the seventh position. They use Chibuku Stadium as their home ground. The D1-affiliated team is one of two that are supported by Chitungwiza Municipality with the other one (top LEFT picture) being a staff-composed social outfit which last October participated in the inter-cities tournament that was hosted by Harare at Belgravia Sports Club.
