Chitungwiza Municipality

Chitungwiza Municipality is located 25 km from the Capital City, Harare.The name Chitungwiza was derived from Dungwiza, the village of legendary prophet Chaminuka. Chitungwiza is rated the third largest urban settlement after Harare and Bulawayo. Chitungwiza has several suburbs. The oldest of the suburbs is St Mary’s which is divided into two sections, Manyame Park (New St Mary’s) and Old St Mary’s. St Mary’s is popularly known for being the oldest suburb in Chitungwiza. It is followed by Zengeza, which is divided into 5 sections i.e. Zengeza 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. Zengeza 4 is the heart of Chitungwiza and despite it being relatively the largest section, is home to a shopping mall (Chitungwiza Town Centre) which is located at the boarder with Seke (Unit D). PaGomba is also another major shopping centre located in Zengeza 4. It is also home to Chitungwiza Central Hospital (CCH), one of the major referral Centres in Zimbabwe with renal unit and Citimed, is the largest private health institution in Chitungwiza. Zengeza 4 also pays homage to Global Institute of Business, publishers of the Nexus Book Series as well as the Chitungwiza Arts Centre. There is also Seke, another suburb located in Chitungwiza and it is divided into many sections i.e. Unit A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, J, K, L, M, N, O AND P. Some of the popular shopping centres in Chitungwiza include Town Centre, Makoni, Chikwanha, Pazvido, Jambanja, Chigovanyika, Huruyadzo, Unit J, Zengeza 2. In Chitungwiza, services are provided by the local authority, which is run by 25 Ward Councillors. Chitungwiza Mayor and his deputy are also drawn from the Wards. The Councillors term of office is 5 years and are dully elected by the Ward residents during Zimbabwe’s hamonised elections. The Chief Executive Officer (Town Clerk), is the one in charge of the management of the organization. The current Mayor is Cllr Lovemore Maiko for the 2018–2023 term of office. Currently, the Acting Town Clerk is Mrs Evangelista Machona.

FINANCE 

This sector is responsible for policy formulation and leadership in the following areas:

  1. Economic, fiscal and monetary policies
  2. Investment policy in the Municipality
  3. Budget co-ordination and control
  4. Bilateral and multilateral development and financing
  5. Municipality’s revenue, expenditure and borrowing
  6.  Budget monitoring
  7. Municipality’s debt management
  8. Accounting services
  9. Custodian of Municipality’s assets
  10. Divestiture of public enterprises
  11. Public, private partnership

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

The Information Technology Sector functions include the following:

  1. Automation of all Municipality’s services in order to provide enhanced operational efficiency and effectiveness in service delivery;
  2. Design and development of an interactive website through which information for public consumption can be uploaded thus provide a communication channel for exchange of views and opinions.
  3. Implementation of recommendations contained in the ICT Transformation Roadmap that is anchored to Municipality Integrated Development Plan;
  4. Ensuring that the departments under the sector are aligned roles and responsibilities with the priorities and objectives set out in the Chitungwiza Municipality’s policies and plans;
  5. Dissemination of public information and Public participation;
  6. Development of Municipality’s communications capacity and infrastructure
